What is Low Iron Glass

Low Iron glass is an extra clear float glass with high light transmission properties. Low-iron glass is made using carefully selected raw materials with naturally low iron content. As standard float glass naturally emits a green hue, low iron glass is extra clear and perfect when neutral colour and clarity count. Low iron glass is suitable for a variety of uses such as atrium’s, store fronts, skylights and doors. It is therefore ideal for use where glass edges are visible or where a neutral colour is desired. As its light transmission is higher than clear float glass , it is perfect for applications where transparency and purity of colour are desired. Low iron glass be tempered, laminated and painted just like regular float glass and can be used virtually anywhere regular float glass can. It also improves the integrity of laminated applications, as the glass becomes distortion free due to the extra clarity, improves the strength and also the security elements of the glass for exceptional performance.

Normal Clear Glass vs Low Iron Glass

1. Low iron glass has much lower glass self explosion ratio.
As we know,the Nis inside glass will cause glass spontaneous breakage. The Nickle mainly exist in the glass raw materials,and the float glass production lines, low iron glass raw materials source are quite different from the normal clear glass with much stricter requirement,the raw materials are more pure,which will decrease the tempered glass spontaneous breakage ratio.

2. Low iron glass has much pure color.
Normal clear glass color is slightly green,especially thick glass panel, 15mm,19mm,the green color is more obvious, it's caused by the iron content of the raw materials.Since the iron content in the raw material is only 1/10 or even lower than that of clear glass, low iron glass has less absorption of the green band of visible light than ordinary glass, ensuring the pure and light glass color.

3. Low iron glass has higher light transmittance & solar coefficient.
Low iron glass allows much higher light transmittance and allows more solar energy transmitted the glass, that’s the reason, greenhouse, solar panels, photovoltaic panels, and museum glass prefer low iron glass to get more solar energy and more clear appearance.

4. Production Difficulty
The production difficulty of low iron glass is much higher than clear glass because of strict raw materials and production lines,as well as glass production technology.

5. Low iron glass price is much higher
Low iron glass price is higher than normal clear glass since it is more difficult to produce,once been made into processed glass,the price difference is even higher.
